Looking for raw GIS data? Upon request, Seneca Libraries can obtain data for Seneca students and faculty from the Ministry of Natural Resources. Have look in the Seneca Libraries Online Geospatial Data Collection below for data immediately available, or search the LIO Warehouse for other datasets and submit a request for them. We also have a Subject Guide with links to data by country. Any requests to have raw data obtained from these sources and added to our Online Geospatial Data Collection should be submitted to:

Land Information Ontario (LIO) is a provincial initiative that supports the province-wide sharing of geographic data.

Ontario GeoHub is a web-accessible database that stores geographic data from across the province. The data ranges from administrative boundaries to transportation arteries to land ownership information to the location of underground wells and satellite imagery.

Seneca College has downloaded some of the more popular datasets from LIO into our Geospatial Online Collection. To request additional data:

  1. Search the Ontario GeoHub
  2. Once you have located the data you require, send a request to from your Seneca email address and include this information in your email:
    1. the title and abstract from the Ontario GeoHub search
    2. your name and course code
  3. Your request may take from 2 days to 2 weeks depending on the size of the data (LIO mails data that is too large to download)

Once received, the library will post your data online for you to download, or will place a CD on reserve at the Borrower Services Desk in the Newnham Campus Library, depending on the size of the data.
