Free Resources for your Courses: Where can my students access my course resources?

Access through MySeneca

MySeneca can be a great place to store your readings.

Benefits include:

  • you want to password protect them (maybe for copyright reasons)
  • you don't have the skills or don't want the bother of building a website
  • you want to keep all your course materials/grades/etc. together in one place

Be aware:

  • you will have to course copy your readings semester to semester
  • you won't be able to collaborate with other faculty, unless you use an organization or something similar
  • you will not have much control over look and feel

Instructions for adding content to MySeneca

If you do choose MySeneca, you can customize the way your readings appear so that it's easier for your students to know exactly what they need to read and when. For example, by week:

You can email Jennifer Peters for some advice for organizing your readings.

Access through a website

If you have the skills or aptitude and if your resources don't need to be stored under a password (i.e. they are not scanned materials), you could always build your own website to house your materials.

See this site for an example: https://sites.google.com/view/professionalpresentations/home

Benefits include:

  • students don't need to log in
  • when Blackboard goes down, your resources are still available
  • you have control over the look and feel of the site
  • it's easy to collaborate with multiple faculty/sections

Be aware:

  • anyone may be able to see your readings list (including publishers so make sure you adhere to copyright law)
  • you cannot store items that should be under a password (e.g. student reports/videos, scanned chapters/articles)

See below for some tools you could use to build your site:
