The BOILR is a repository of interactive learning resources (ILRs) that have been reviewed and selected by librarians and faculty for use in courses.

What do we consider an Interactive Learning Resource (ILR)?

Component Criteria Examples
"Interactive" Requires active student input (as opposed to passive) Answering an online quiz question; pressing "next" on a tutorial; following steps of a game
"Learning" Engages multiple modes of learning Visual; auditory; reading; kinesthetic
"Resource" Guides student through a series of actions to complete learning Online object that is available publicly or through a Seneca licence

What do we not consider an Interactive Learning Resource (ILR)?

Resources which do not require active student input (i.e., are passive) including:

  • Videos with no built-in engagement component
  • Textual resource guides
  • Podcasts
