Finding a Book When You Know the Topic:
1. Choose words or phrases that describe your topic.
For example, in the research question:
How does fetal alcohol syndrome affect behaviour?your topic is: fetal alcohol syndrome
2. Type the words for your topic in the search box. If you want the words searched as a phrase, enclose the words in quotation marks:
"fetal alcohol syndrome"
3. Under Search by: select Quick Search. Click Search.
- A Quick Search looks for your search words in the subject, title, author and publisher areas of the item record.
- Your search results will list item records that include the phrase "fetal alcohol syndrome".
Finding a Book When You Know the Title:
1. In the search box, type the exact title or the first few words of the exact title. Omit initial articles (a, an, the).
2. Under Search by: Select Title and then click Search.
3. If you are not sure of all the correct title words, type as many of the title words as possible and then under Search by:, select Quick Search. Click Search. Look down the titles result list to see if you can see the title you are searching for.
Finding a Book When You Know the Author:
1. Type the author's last name and then first name. For example:
Atwood Margaret
- if you are unsure of the author's complete name, enter the last name only.
2. Select Author and click Search.
Finding a Book When You Know the Author and the Title
1. Type the author's last name and words from the title.
For example, to find the book
Business and Information Systems by Robert C. Nickerson
type: business systems Nickerson
2. Select Quick Search. Click Search.
- A Quick Search looks for your search words in the subject, title, author and publisher areas of the item record.
- Your search results will list item records that include the words "Nickerson", "business" and "systems".
