Directory of Audio-Visual Equipment - Seneca@York Campus

Audio-Visual equipment is available to students, faculty and staff involved in the teaching and learning activities of Seneca College. Staff will be pleased to provide instruction on the use of all equipment.

All general electronic classrooms are equipped with a computer, data projector, screen, DVD and VHS playback.  Other than TV/VCR/DVD carts, which are delivered to non electronic classrooms, all equipment must be picked up and returned to Audio-Visual Services.


CD/Cassette Recorders and Players

Available in several sizes and formats ranging from small tape recorders, to large boom boxes for optimal playback. Boom boxes are equipped with a single CD player. Recorders all have built in microphones.

Cameras

Digital Compact cameras are available.

Card Readers/USB/Firewire cables

Card readers are available that allow most commonly available memory cards to be read via USB.  A small amount of USB and Firewire cables are available for data transfer.

Clickers

Class sets of remote control devices which allow students to register their answers to questions posed in class and then displays the class distribution of responses. Software for this classroom performance system has been installed on all college e-classroom computers. To learn more, see Clickers in the Classroom.

Digital Audio Recorder

Digital audio recorder with built in microphone available for taping interviews, meetings, focus groups, etc.

DVD Playback Equipment

All electronic classrooms are equipped with DVD players or computers with DVD drives and software for playing DVDs. To play DVDs in non-electronic classrooms, you may book a TV/DVD cart which will be delivered to and picked up from your classroom.

Document Camera

Used to project documents, transparencies and small objects via the data projector in the classroom.

Extension Cords

For use when electrical outlet is beyond the reach of the cord supplied with most equipment.

Flip Charts

Available at Newnham and King campuses. A limited supply of paper is provided. Please bring your own markers.

iPod Touch

Available for use as remote controls for Keynote (Mac) and Powerpoint (Mac and PC).

Laptop Computers - Mac & PC

These are available for in-class use, and may be connected to Portable Data Projectors which will enable your computer image to be projected onto a screen. They are loaded with the standard college software, including PowerPoint.

LCD TV / BluRay Cart

Available for all accessible general purpose classrooms.

Mac VGA Adaptors

These adaptors are available to allow students and faculty to display Mac laptops in the electronic classrooms.

Microphones and Public Address Systems

These systems are available for events where sound needs to be amplified for large audiences. Microphones and accessories may be used with public address systems. Standard plug-in microphones as well as wireless clip-on microphones are available.

Overhead projectors

These are available in all general purpose classrooms and most labs. Most overhead projectors have two lamps and a dual lamp changer. If your classroom does not have an overhead projector, please contact Audio-Visual Services at your campus. Overhead projectors may also be borrowed from Audio-Visual Services for specific instructional uses.

Portable Data Projectors

For those who wish to use their own laptop computer or to project from another source such as VCR or video camera.

Portable Projection Screens

Screens are available with floor stands and may be borrowed for use in areas not equipped with permanent wall screens. The standard size is 70" x 70".

Slide Projectors

Kodak slide projectors are available at all campuses. Standard accessories included in the projector case are a lens, wired remote, slide carousel tray and an extra lamp.

Tripods

For use with still and video cameras for a steadier image.

TV/VCR and TV/DVD Carts

Available for rooms that do not contain DVD or VHS playback equipment.

Video Cameras

Available for in-class use or off-campus, if required for class assignments.
Mini DV Camcorders record onto a mini DV tape (available from the S@Y bookstore).

  • Mini DV tapes must be supplied by students.
  • Editing can be done using Windows Movie Maker on the PCs in the S@Y computing commons.
  • Using a tripod with a video camera is recommended as it allows for a steadier image and hands-free operation.
